Why Nintendo CEO Said "Sorry" - Switch 2 will be a big hit

 2.2-million reservations in Japan alone

"It's a lot more than you prepared"

Nintendo's new console game console Switch 2 is expected to hit at least 2.2 million people in advance, and it is expected to be a box office hit from the beginning following its previous version of Switch.

Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa said on X (X, former Twitter) on the 23rd, "Since we started accepting pre-orders for Switch 2, a very large number of people in Japan alone have applied," adding, "We have far exceeded the number of bodies we have prepared."

For this reason, many customers are in a position to wait without promise in advance pre-sale through lottery sales. Furukawa said, "To avoid the hassle of having to reapply for customers who did not win the first lottery sale, we will also automatically apply for the second lottery sale," but added, "It is difficult for all customers who applied for the application to be selected even if the number of lottery sales is included in the second lottery."

Its predecessor, the Switch, is the second most popular console device in the world after Sony's PlayStation (PS). As of late last year, some 150 million units were sold worldwide.

The Nintendo Store's pre-booking for the Switch 2 was limited to users who met the requirements such as a one-year online plan subscription and 20 hours of play time or more. The actual demand for the Switch 2 is expected to be much higher than this, with about 2.2 million people meeting this requirement alone.

Furukawa has promised to produce more switches. "We plan to produce and ship a large number of Nintendo Switch 2 in the future," he said. "We are deeply sorry that we cannot meet your expectations. We hope you understand."
